CELEBRATING sustainability SUCCESSES AND DRIVING FUTURE GOALS: SERVICE STREAM

SOcial Impact Advisory & Strategy • ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNICATIONS DESIGN

The Challenge

Service Stream - a national leader in essential network services - had grown rapidly through acquisitions, leading to cultural variation and differing interpretations of ‘social impact’. While the company had established five ESG focus areas (Health & Safety, People, Environment, Community, Governance), its sustainability reporting reflected a fragmented approach with no unified strategy guiding its broader social value or reconciliation commitments.

The Task

Amplifier Collective was engaged to support the drafting of Service Stream’s FY24 Sustainability Report - the fifth in its series - and to use the process as a springboard toward the development of a new, integrated Social Impact Strategy. The goal was to strengthen ESG coherence, elevate internal engagement and lay the foundations for a five-year impact journey.

Our Approach

Amplifier undertook a collaborative ‘Impact Journey’ process, combining qualitative engagement and strategic facilitation with rigorous content development. Key steps included:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Targeted interviews with internal leaders and teams across five ESG pathways.

  • Workshops: Two co-design sessions - one with the Executive Leadership Group, another with a cross-section of ‘impact champions’.

  • Survey & Material Review: Analysis of previous sustainability data, community partnership outcomes and workforce engagement results.

  • Copywriting & Storytelling: Synthesising technical reporting (e.g. emissions, diversity, HSEQ metrics) into accessible, values-aligned narratives.

The Result

Amplifier delivered the 2024 Sustainability Report - a comprehensive, visually engaging document that showcased measurable progress across Service Stream’s pathways, including:

  • 23% reduction in high-potential incidents.

  • 18% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

  • $19M+ spent with First Nations businesses.

  • 31% increase in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

  • Launch of new Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy and the new ‘WomenRise’ leadership program.

In parallel, the engagement process informed foundations for the company’s first Social Impact Strategy, identifying priorities for deeper community connection, internal capacity building and future-focused governance.
